The number of voters in Negros Occidental for the 2010 elections could reach 1.7 to 1.8 million, Provincial Election Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.
In the 2004 elections, Negros Occidental had 1.57 million voters but this was pruned down after voters who failed to vote in two successive regular elections were deactivated, and the names of those who had double registrations or who had died were removed.
A consolidated report after a third Election Registration Board Hearing on July 20 that was completed yesterday showed that Negros Occidental’s new list already had 1,407,542 registered voters, Suarez said.
But the registration period ends on Oct. 31 and two more Election Registration Board Hearings have yet to be held Oct. 19 and Nov. 16, Suarez said, in explaining his expected increase in voters.
