The Negros Occidental National Food Authority has procured 3,327 bags of palay and 37 bags of yellow corn in August 1 to 25, Cynthia Luz Chua, NFA senior grains operation officer, said yesterday.
Of this, 1,555 bags were sold to them by farmers' cooperatives while 1,777 came from individual farmers, Chua said.
She said the NFA government buying price for clean and dry palay is P17.40 per kilo for individual farmers, and P17.70 a kilo for farmers' cooperatives.
The yellow corn grain is bought at P12.70 for individual farmers and P13 for farmers groups, while the white corn is purchased at P13.40 for individual farmers and P13.70 for farmers groups, Chua added.
She said the farmers groups always have a higher buying price at NFA because the cooperative development incentive fee that is added to the amount that NFA pays them, will go back to their cooperatives.
The NFA will keep this until it reaches a certain amount which they can use in their post harvest facilities to strengthen their cooperatives, Chua said.
The NFA Negros Occidental is continuously accepting clean and dry palay and basic yellow and white corn grains at the NFA provincial office.
Chua also said that individual farmers and farmers' groups can sell their palay and corn grain to any NFA buying station.
The buying stations are the Sanson Warehouse-Mandalagan, Shuttlers Warehouse-Tangub, Gequillana Warehouse-Dancalan, Ilog, and NAPRO Warehouse-San Carlos City , she said.*LTG
