NORECO 2 upgrades to
halt power outages
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 2 will upgrade its power sub-station in Pulantubig, Dumaguete City to solve the perennial problem of power outages.

NORECO 2 general manager Ephraim Taclob yesterday said that the current 10-MVA Pulantubig sub-station will be upgraded to 20-MVA starting this month.

A second 10-MVA sub-station that feeds power to certain areas in Dumaguete is also in the outskirts village of Bagacay .

Taclob said they will isolate the feeders that are supplying power outside of Dumaguete City to reduce the occurrence of power outages.

Coverage areas and load requirements of NORECO 2's feeders will also be shortened, he added.

The electric cooperative is slowly implementing its system upgrade amidst complaints from the business and private sectors on frequent power interruptions, he said.

Meanwhile, Taclob denied that Feeder 2 is experiencing power overload.

He said Feeder 2 just has a wider coverage and is therefore more vulnerable to brownouts. Its area of coverage will soon be shortened, Taclob added.*JFP
