President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had appointed lawyer Gamaliel Cordoba commissioner of the National Telecommunications Commission, Malacañang announced yesterday.
Cordoba replaces Commissioner Ruel Canobas, who resigned on July to attend to his wife who had undergone an operation, a palace press release said.
Like Canobas, Cordoba has worked in Malacañang in various capacities, first as chief of staff of the Presidential Chief of Staff, then as assistant executive secretary and undersecretary in the Office of the Executive Secretary, it added.
In 2006, Cordoba became appointments secretary to the President. He held various other positions in ex-oficio capacities, including board directorship in the Maritime Industry Authority, Philippine National Railways, and the Technology and Livelihood Resource Center-Funds Assistance Group.
Until recently, Cordoba was a director in the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation board.
Also appointed by the President on the same day was Augusto Santos as acting Director General of the National Economic and Development Authority following the resignation of Ralph Recto.
The President also named Derek Puertollano as Assistant Solicitor General; and Bernard Mancinas as Part-Time Commissioner representing the Bikol Language of the Commission on the Filipino Language, the Malacañang press release added.*
