BY NIDA BUENAFE

Six teams will see action when the WNU-SFI 34-Up Basketball Tournament blasts off Sept. 1 at the West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City .

The tournament format was finalized at the Aug. 18 meeting of representatives of the participating squads led by Tony Agustin, chairman of LNA7 SFI and team manager of BBC.

Also in the meeting were tournament commissioner Jake Azucena, USLS team representative Jun Tolosa, PROBAC Robert Zuniga, NEPROAC Geoffrey Sy, BUS-G Mariano Cordova and Nene Lapore, and Big Shot's Nestor Ordonio.

The tournament will adopt a modified Pasarelle System with emphasis on attendance. Under the rules, every playing team will field five new players in the first, second, and third quarter, violation of which in the second and third quarter will sanctioned.

The competition also carries a “protect three ex-varsity players clause” whose ages range from 34 to 39. Former varsity players aged 40 and above, automatically become free agents and are qualified to play without restriction.*NAB
