Double gold for Silay's Severino
in 2009 ASEAN Para Games

Three Silaynons bested international and local opponents in two sports events held in Malaysia and in the Philippines , recently, a press release from Silay City said.

Sander Severino, 24, of Purok Ipil-Ipil, Brgy. Mambulac won double gold medals in chess for the Philippine Team in the 5th ASEAN Para Games held August 12 to 20 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia .

Severino said his gold medals came from individual and team categories, adding that five more gold medals and a silver from the RP chess team gave the Filipinos the overall title in chess, the press release said.

WNU-SFI launches
34-Up basketball tourney

Six teams will see action when the WNU-SFI 34-Up Basketball Tournament blasts off Sept. 1 at the West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City .

The tournament format was finalized at the Aug. 18 meeting of representatives of the participating squads led by Tony Agustin, chairman of LNA7 SFI and team manager of BBC.

Also in the meeting were tournament commissioner Jake Azucena, USLS team representative Jun Tolosa, PROBAC Robert Zuniga, NEPROAC Geoffrey Sy, BUS-G Mariano Cordova and Nene Lapore, and Big Shot's Nestor Ordonio.

YBAC, DPWH-Talisay
post wins in 40-Up cagefest

YBAC/Huminova Tigers beat Panaad Striders/Mang Inasal, 83-77, as DPWH-Talisay defeated Sum-ag Athletic Club, 104-90, to secure their second consecutive victories in the ongoing West Negros University/SFI 40-Up Category Basketball Tournament at the WNU Gym in Bacolod City .

Behind by four points in the first two quarters of play, the Rollie Buenaflor-mentored Tigers later grabbed the upperhand with 40-32.

Coach Boboy Jose Striders fought back in the final quarter, but the Tigers led by Sasuman, Paul Herrera and Santiago Rapiz were unstoppable in the last minutes of play. ARROWARROW
