Ten nightspots at the Bacolod Goldenfields Commercial Complex were simultaneously inspected in a saturation drive by the city's Bureau of Fire Protection from 10 pm on Tuesday night until 1 a.m. yesterday.
City fire marshal, Senior Fire Insp. Pamela Rojane Candido, said the saturation drive is in preparation for the MassKara festival this October.
During their inspection on the nightspots, Candido said they found several violations like the absence of signage, fire and alternative exits, fire fighting apparatus and business permits.
She also said some of the establishments had tampered fuses while others have “octopus electrical connections”, which are not allowed since they are hazardous.
Some of the VIP rooms of the establishments have no alarm systems and their doors are not the “sling-out type”, which can easily be opened in case of any emergency, Candido said.
Candido also said they gave the establishments 15 to 60 days to correct their violations and fines will be imposed to those who remain defiant.
After the inspection on the nightspots, the BFP will also hold series of inspections of hotels in the city, since an influx of tourists is expected for the MassKara fest in October.
Other industrial and commercial establishments, as well as dormitories, boardinghouses, apartments and hospitals will also be inspected soon.
Candido reminded everybody to observe fire-safety measures to save lives and properties.*APN
