With the Superboys taking control of the game in the first half, team owner Tito Lopez, who was given the license to shoot at will, delivered additional 20 points to widen the gap.
Lopez even outscored former Negros Slasher Leo Bat-og who scored 13 points and former West Negros University Mustang Ely Olarte, who chipped in 10 markers.
The Rams started strong and even managed to grab the lead at the end of the first quarter, 22-19, but the Superboys buckled down to work in the second quarter with Balgos delivering his explosive performance.
Stunned by Balgos’ explosion, the Recoletos gunners went cold in succeeding quarters with only Ramir Javillo scoring in double figures in the final tally with 11 points.
After giving the Rams the lead in the first quarter, Ticel charged ahead in the second quarter with 29 points against the Rams’ 17. The second half was a foregone conclusion as the Superboys left behind UNO-R with a total output of 53 points against the latter’s 34 points.
Even a brief scuffle midway in the game between Gono and Caputolan did not perk up the lackluster tournament-ending game in the Division II of the NBA Governor’s Cup. Ticel easily won Game 1, 99-81, and was expected to bag the crown in Game Two.
Aside from Balgos, the Mythical Five selection includes Ticel’s Tony Boy Espinosa and Ely Olarte, USLS’ Randy Baydo and CSA-B’s Ryan Lastimosa.
In Division I action, Cadiz City Whales drowned San Agustin Alumni, 84-79, as T. Locsin registered 26 points while hotshot Jojo Miravalles added 17.
Peewee Demonteverde countered with 23 points and Toy dela Peña backed him up with 20 points but their efforts were not enough to carry coach Oca Aquino’s charges past the streaking Whales.
Cadiz took the lead in the first three quarters 18-15, 19-14 and 24-21 while the former Eagles rallied in the final canto, delivering 29 points against the Whales’ 23-point output.
With the win, the team from northern Negros kept their record unblemished while CSA-B Alumni were left without a win after two games.
Department of Public Works and Highways, on the other hand, posted its second win in three outings with a 98-80 dumping of La Carlota City.
Boy Balbarada topscored with 22 points, while Joemarie Bayhon barreled his way with 21 and Rex Bayer contributed 12 for coach Vernie Villarias.
Sonny Orofel's boys led 21-16 and took the half, 44-34. Former Mustang Chuck Espiritu, Bayhon and Bayer combined for 25 points to catapult DPWH, 73-54 at the end of third.
The Highwaymen were never threatened despite the Iron Dinosaurs' 26-25 final quarter effort.
La Carlota returned to join the NBA together with Toyota-WNU for a 5-team division II round robin. La Carlota, Hinigaran and BUS Group begged off before NBA's opening on November 28.*NAB
