Redhouse stays ahead in
Probac basketball tilt

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Redhouse/Jacopo Resto stays ahead of the pack by beating Bitoy Yee’s Macho Men’s Club, 90-71, as Carlo Diaz poured in 12 of his 25 points in the opening quarter in the Probac Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

Assisting Diaz in the scoring department was Sukrad Sekhon and Mark Po who combined for 10 points for an early 13-point lead for Redhouse while Macho dribblers Tee Espejo, and JR and Alex Fernandez managed to score a total of 12 points.

In the second canto, Sherman Gonzales pumped in 14 points for Macho to cut down the lead to a manageable level of 12 points.

But Redhouse’s  Carlo Chu, Sarge Noble, Paker Blanco and Nico Ganir simply refused to hand over the momentum to the threatening Machos as they drilled in a combined 24-point output for a one-point advantage, 49-48, at halftime.

Taking it slow in the second half, Redhouse gained their composure back and once again, took the upperhand of the game by upping the lead to six points going to the final quarter.

In crunch time, Diaz fired off 10 quarter points while his team successfully negates the scorers of Macho to keep Redhouse/Jacopo on top en route to another win.

Meanwhile, Chromic barged into the winning column as they beat Jack Chan’s Luis Paint Center, 94-87, in the other game.

Playing with a sense of urgency, Rodney Butiong’s Chromic Carwash played efficiently in the opening quarter with Jason Olmedo, Reyland Tilano, Joelyn Dilag and Nato Canoy racking up at least five points each for an early 25-21 lead.

Keeping the Paintmen within the game was the timely sniping of Francis Andren, who hit a couple of triples, and Jimbo Kho, who delivered nine points.

In the second quarter, Olmedo, Joseph Wong and Philip Tan maintained their team’s slight edge by registering a combined 21 markers. Luis Paint bigman Tisoy Escote paced his team with a 12-point explosion in the painted area but his team still trailed by three points, 46-43 at halftime.

In the second half, Nato Canoy lighted up the score sheet for Chromic as he delivered 16 points, including four treys, to demoralize the Paintmen.

With momentum on their side, Canoy connected with two more treys in the final quarter, complemented by Wong, who chipped in seven quarter-points to keep the shorthanded Luis Paint squad at bay.

Canoy led all scorers with 32 points.*NAB
