Ticel keeps NBA
Gov’s Cup crown

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Powerhouse Ticel Superboys made sure that there will be no third game in their best-of-three final series against UNO-Recoletos as they outplayed the Rams and blew them away, 101-73, to successfully defend their crown in the 2009 NBA Gov. Isidro Zayco Cup Basketball Tournament, Saturday at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Tournament most valuable player Roel Balgos single-handedly demolished the Rams in the second quarter as he scored 19 of his game-high 29 points against BPEI-UNO-R’s 17-point total output.

Redhouse/Jacopo Resto stays ahead of the pack by beating Bitoy Yee’s Macho Men’s Club, 90-71, as Carlo Diaz poured in 12 of his 25 points in the opening quarter in the Probac Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

Assisting Diaz in the scoring department was Sukrad Sekhon and Mark Po who combined for 10 points for an early 13-point lead for Redhouse while Macho dribblers Tee Espejo, and JR and Alex Fernandez managed to score a total of 12 points.

In the second canto, Sherman Gonzales pumped in 14 points for Macho to cut down the lead to a manageable level of 12 points.

Pacquiao agrees to fight
Mayweather on March 13

Filipino boxing icon and hero Manny Pacquiao has signed a deal to fight US star Floyd Mayweather on March 13, reports from the wires said, with a 50-50 split in what could be boxing's richest fight.

Undefeated Mayweather had agreed to terms for the bout but it was not certain he had signed a deal and there have been reports that Pacquiao wanted minor changes that might need to be confirmed with the American's camp.

Mayweather, 40-0 with 25 knockouts, was regarded as the world's top pound-for-pound fighter before a 19-month layoff that ended last September.
