I was not driving,
Montelibano says

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Candidate for Bacolod councilor, Philip Montelibano, yesterday denied that he was driving the Toyota Innova vehicle that figured in an accident early Thursday morning.

Montelibano, who was at a mass for the Maguindanao massacre victims at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod yesterday afternoon, said it was his driver Leonard Perfecto who was driving when they hit a trailer truck that made a sudden turn at the junction of Lacson Extension and V.L. Yap Street.

His companion Luis Zabaljauregi, 30, of Capitol Subdivision, Brgy. Villamonte, sustained scratches because he did not have a seat belt on, while he did not sustain any injuries because he was seated in the back of the vehicle, Montelibano said.

He said when the accident happened he sent his driver to get transportation so they could bring his friend to the hospital but an ambulance came before he could get back

Montelibano said he and his friend had just come from Mamamarias where they had pizza and two bottles of beer. He, however, stressed that it was not him driving, contrary to what has been reported.

At about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Toyota Innova of Montelibano with plate number FFR 626 bumped the middle right portion of a trailer truck (PMD 518) driven by Ronald Gallarde, 31, of Central Manapla town.       Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Xavier Rama showed that the truck was making a right turn to Lacson Extension from west of V.L. Yap Street when the Innova, which according to  early police reports was being driven by Montelibano, bumped it.

The truck sustained minor damages while Montelibano’s vehicle, which is now impounded at the Bacolod City Police Headquarters, was a total wreck.*APN
