Butete kills girl,
20 hospitalized A 4-year-old girl was killed and 20 other residents of Lakawon, Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City, were hospitalized after eating a “butete (pufferfish)” yesterday morning, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante said last night. The fatality was identified as Maria Johanna de los Santos, the mayor said. Cadiz Viejo Kagawad Mario Cañete told DYEZ Aksyon Radyo that the child and 20 others ate the meat of a 5-kilo butete that was cooked by Jose Beroy Cañete, whom he described as an expert cook. |

Bing’s bid for mayor MAKATI CITY – Philippine boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao yesterday said he will support the candidacy of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia in the 2010 elections. Pacquiao said Leonardia is his lucky charm and has been supportive of him in all his fights and it is now his turn to help him by being his lucky charm in politics. In his upcoming bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13, Leonardia will still be his belt holder as always, he added. |

COA task force to assess
Monico liquidation report BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO MANILA – Mario Lipana, Philippine Sports Commission audit team leader, said the Commission on Audit chairman has created a Task Force to assess the liquidation report of Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella involving the P50.5 million budget for the hosting of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee. Lipana said the Task Force, headed by director Bato Ali, was given until Dec. 18 to come up with a report regarding their assessment. After the evaluation of the Task Force, that is the time they will come up with another opinion, he said, adding that they will forward the COA opinion to the PSC for appropriate action. |
