SSA bags title
in girls football

The St. Scholastica's Academy High School girls’ football team emerged as champions in the 2009 Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association meet after posting a hard-earned 2-1 victory over University of St. La Salle, Sunday at the USLS pitch.
The Warren Concepcion-mentored squad scored goals courtesy of Aina Martin on the 14th minute of the first half and Carmela Lizares on the 50th minute of the second half. Lone USLS goal came on the 17th minute from a free kick of Chermaine Guancia.
USLS, mentored by former RP team coach Freddie Lazarito, fought gallantly until the final whistle but failed to score the equalizer until the final buzzer. 
| RJ Star tops NSL Fun bowl RJ STAR I/NPBC emerged as champion in the just-concluded NSL Fun Bowl hosted by Negros Occidental High School Class ’89 at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfields Commercial Complex in Bacolod City. Piloted by Rowena Juarez, the champion team subdued the hardfighting Suppliers headed by master bowler Orly Guiljon in the final showdown, 556-539, to win the top prize and the tournament’s crown. The members of the victorious squad were Juarez, Rey Gargar, Melchor Semillano, Bert Pediongco, Butch Oberio, Sammy Gaitan and Joval Damasco, while sister team RJ STAR II composed Steve Po, Hernand Garciniego, Raymund Gargar, Larry de la Cruz, Edwin Monserate, Rudy Palma, Raffy Ramirez, Edwin Montano and JP Montaño settled for second runner-up. |
