Voters registration
resumes Monday

The Commission on Elections offices in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental will resume the registration of new voters starting Monday in compliance with a Supreme Court order, Provincial Election Officer Jessie Suarez said yesterday

The COMELEC in Manila yesterday released Resolution No. 8719 extending the registration of voters for five days after the SC granted the Kabataan party-list’s petition for extension of registration until January 9 to accommodate first time voters, he said.

Comelec offices nationwide will register new voters on December 21, 22, 23, 28 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Suarez said

Fire-stricken Purok Katilingban, Brgy. 40, Bacolod City was declared under a state of calamity by the Sangguniang Panlungsod during a special session yesterday.

Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the baranggay council of Brgy. 40 had passed a resolution requesting the Bacolod City Council to declare the purok under a state of calamity so they could use their calamity fund for relief and rehabilitation.

On Thursday morning, 15 houses were destroyed and four were damaged by a fire caused by improper disposal of a cigaret butt at the second floor of one of the residences.

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday unanimously passed an appropriation ordinance augmenting the amount of P28 million for the extra cash gift of regular and plantilla casual employees of the Bacolod City government.

Present during the special session requested by Mayor Evelio Leonardia were Councilors Greg Gasataya, Al Victor Espino, Homer Bais, Wilson Gamboa Jr., Roberto Rojas, Alex Paglumotan, Dindo Ramos, Reynold Iledan and Diosdado Valenzuela.

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson yesterday said each regular and plantilla casual employee will receive an extra cash gift amounting to P10,000.
