In a joint meeting by the SP committees on labor management and the communication and energy recently, Transcom Bacolod said that the 169 agents who were reported to have been terminated were not retrenched but were victims of a “process error.”
The Kilusang Mayo Uno, however, said yesterday that Transcom’s actions on the employment of some of its agents who were “terminated” last week were a violation of labor rights.

Bakers won't
hike bread prices
The Philippine Federation of Bakers’ Associations yesterday said that its baker-members will not increase prices of bread in the remainder of the year despite hiked prices of sugar and liquefied petroleum gas, the Philippine News Agency said in a press release.
“The prices of sugar and LPG increased. But the bakers who belong to PFBA decided not to impose increase of prices this year. This is our Christmas gift for Filipinos,” said Lusito "Chito" Chavez, PFBA vice president, during Balitaan sa Tinapayan news forum held in Sampaloc, Manila.
Chavez said the years 2007 until 2009 were not good for bakers, especially the small bakers. “The series of price increases of LPG and ingredients need for the making of bread really affect us. This really hurt especially the small bakers,” the press release said.

‘Stronger,
more vibrant economy’
Malacañang Sunday expressed confidence that the country’s economy will be stronger and more vibrant in 2010 due to the economic reforms initiated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the expanding global economic recovery, a government press release said.
In a radio interview over DZRB Radyo ng Bayan, Presidential Spokesperson for Economic Affairs Professor Gary Olivar said the economic reforms set by President Arroyo can be continued by her successor.
He projected that the country’s trade with its major partners will continue to increase including the rise in domestic consumption and demand which will further keep the economy afloat next year, the press release said.
