“I can stake my life on it: my brother will not tarnish our family name and steal in office,” Aurora Corazon “Pinky” Abellada said yesterday.
Abellada and Maria Elena “Ballsy” Cruz, sisters of Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, were in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, for the birthday of third district congressional candidate Albee Benitez last night.
Abellada told the DAILY STAR they continue to get warm and enthusiastic welcomes from people who are spending their own money to put up headquarters around the country for their brother’s campaign.
“They are telling us that they are helping because they want a better government and they have hope for change again with Noy running,” she said.
“They tell us they were sad about the corruption and greed in the country and were losing hope, but when mom (former President Corazon Aquino) died, they were awakened to memories of better days of clean government, which our brother represents,” she added.
Abellada said the Filipino people have given their family so much love, they want to give back what they can through service.
Cruz said they are not intimidated by the administration’s political machinery.
“I am not at all intimidated, I just believe that if God wants him (Benigno Aquino III) to be president, He will just put everything in place,” she said
Cruz said her faith is such that she does not worry about threats of the well-oiled machineries of her brother’s opponents.*CPG
