Ex-convict shot dead in Taculing
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

An ex-convict was shot dead at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday while he was attending a benefit dance in Purok Kabukiran, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City.

Police Officer 1 Arnel Deles, investigator on case, identified the casualty as Enrique dela Paz, 22, of Libertad Extension, Brgy. 40, Bacolod, who succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on his head.

Deles said Dela Paz was with a woman, whose identity he withheld, when an unidentified suspect approached and shot him at close range with an improvised shotgun and fled with his three companions.

Dela Paz, who had just been released from the Bacolod City Jail Management and Penology, was rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center but his attending physician declared him dead on arrival, police record showed.

Deles recalled that when he was still assigned in Police Station 6, Dela Paz had been tagged as a police character and was charged for frustrated homicide and other cases.

He ruled out the angle that vigilante are behind the killing, adding that the rival group of the Bandana gang, of which the victim is a member, might be responsible for killing Dela Paz.

As of yesterday, the woman companion of Dela Paz had identified the suspect through the rouge’s gallery, but Deles said they are still asking those who were able to witness the killing to come out and shed light on the incident.*APN
