Cockfarm caretaker
injured in shooting

A cockfarm worker was shot and injured by an unidentified suspect at about 11:30 p.m. Monday in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City , a police report said yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Richard Fernandez, 25, of Brgy. Panakyaw, Isabela town, Negros Occidental, who works in a cockfarm in Brgy. Mansilingan.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Donnie Garcia showed that Fernandez and his friends who came from a drinking spree in a store in Brgy. Mansilingan, were passing near the gate of Grandville 3 Subdivision when the shooting took place.

The report submitted by Garcia to the Bacolod City Police Office said a group of unidentified persons pacified Fernandez and his friends, as they were allegedly throwing stones and shouting at motorists after having an argument with the volunteer guard of Greensville 3 Subdivision.

Several minutes later, a commotion broke out and an unidentified person fired his gun hitting Fernandez on his left leg, police records showed.

Fernandez was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital , where he is now recuperating, while the suspect is now at-large.

A “tres-cantos” bladed weapon measuring 8 and a half inches long was recovered from the crime scene.*APN

Bystanders maul
‘thief' in Bacolod

Bystanders mauled a suspected thief who allegedly entered a residence in Bacolod City Monday night, Police Station 1 chief, Senior Insp. Luisito Acebuche said yesterday.

The suspect was identified as Louie John Jamandre, 20, of Purok Rosal, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod , who is now detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 1.

Acebuche said he and his men saw Jamandre being mauled by the residents, and they tried to pacify them but were outnumbered as he had only twelve policemen with him.

Complainant Antonio Encarguez of Rosario-Hernaez streets, Brgy. 34, positively identified Jamandre at Police Station 1, as the one who entered his house through the backdoor.

Encarguez said he was awakened by his house helper who saw an unidentified man inside their house. When he called the suspect's attention, the latter allegedly danced and pretended to be mentally deranged before running out of the house.

Jamandre denied the accusations when asked by the media.

“I did not enter the house (of Encarguez), they only mistook me for the thief,” Jamandre said sobbing.

Members of the Emergency Medical Service of the Public Safety Emergency Management Section of Bacolod City treated Jamandre for his injuries.*APN
