Registration for
elections remains slow
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Few new voter registrants trooped to Commission on Elections' offices in Negros Occidental on the second day of the five-day extended registration period, Provincial Election Officer Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

The first two days of registration have been slow but it could pick up next week with students home for the holidays, he said.

Registration will continue today and on December 28 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Suarez said

While in some COMELEC offices in Negros Occidental the number of registrants were as low as five a day, Bacolod City had relatively higher figures.

In Bacolod City , 160 new voters were registered Monday, and yesterday there were 276, Election Officer Ryan Castro said.

The COMELEC in Manila released Friday Resolution No. 8719 extending the registration of voters for five days after the Supreme Court granted the Kabataan party-list's petition for extension of registration until January 9 to accommodate first time voters.

The extended voters' registration only covers new voters, it will not accept applications for transfer or registration of records, reactivation of delisted voters, changes or correction of voter record entries, and reinstatement of names, the COMELEC resolution said.*CPG
