Maj. Gen. Jogy Leo Fojas will take over from Maj. Gen. Arsenio Arugay, who is retiring from the military service this month, the National Capital Region Command in Metro Manila effective today.
The appointment of Fojas, former Negros Army chief, as NCRCom chief brings to four the number of senior military and police officers from Negros who occupied sensitive positions in Metro Manila, among them Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco and Geary Barias, as well as the concurrent National Capital Region Police Office chief Leopoldo Bataoil.
Fojas also served as president of the general court martial hearing the mutiny case of former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda, Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, former Scout Ranger Regiment commander, and others linked to the failed February 2006 military uprising, military records show.
Army chief Lt. Gen. Victor Ibrado yesterday said that Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu is taking over from Fojas as commanding general of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division in Davao.
Brig. Gen. Boy Espino will replace Mapagu as Army chief of staff, Ibrado added.
Fojas said he expects that there will be more coup attempts against the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo but said the people are already tired of supporting destabilization attempts.
Fojas joins other members of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1976, who are now occupying top positions in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and National Police.*GPB
