Revenues of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian of Negros Occidental grew by 58 percent in 2008 to P3.945 million, from only P2.3 million in the previous year, PVO figures show.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said in a Jan. 6 report to Gov. Isidro Zayco that the collection increase can be attributed to the implementation of the Revised Provincial Tax Ordinance and strict enforcement of the quarantine regulation in both sea and airports.
Decena said the P3.945 million was derived from issuances of veterinary inspection and laboratory fees, and income from milk sales.
The PVO has yet to collect P255,139 from the Negros Federation of Dairy Cooperatives from fresh milk delivery in November and December.
In 2008, it earned P269,904 in January; P199,241, February; P215,079, March; P199,269, April; May, P214,816; June, P147,894; July, P286,668; August, P471,895; September, P437,805; October, P512,993; November, P518,130; and December, P471,833.
Zayco said he welcomes the increase in PVO revenues because he also wants the provincial government to earn income from its operations.
He also said he is hoping that the economic enterprise units of the province such as district hospitals, Mambukal Resort, and Multi- Purpose Gym could also earn revenues for the province.*NLG
