Giant lantern-making
contest slated at mall

SM City in Bacolod will hold a Giant Lantern-Making Contest featuring the 12 Zodiac Signs of the Chinese calendar, in line with the celebration of the BacoLaodiat Festival in Bacolod, an SM press release said.

Teams must be composed of three to five members; design should be lighted, weather-proof and tri-dimensional; Giant Lantern entry's size should not be more than 5 ft x 5 ft with a stand of 2 ft, the press release said.

Interested parties may obtain application forms at the SM City Bacolod Mall Marketing Department on or before Jan.16. Competitors will be made to draw the Chinese Zodiac, namely, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon Snake, Horse, Ram,  Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig, the press release said.

Digital art exhibit opens today
AT USLS

The League of 2D Artists will hold its first group presentation, “Dihitalyado, a digital art exhibit”, today at the Museo Negrense de La Salle of the University of St. La Salle, in Bacolod City, a USLS press release said.

Featured artists are Von Caberte, Bill Graciadas, Christopher Mar Bayaban, Ramon Puasa, Leonardo Samson, Ed Yanson, Daniel Irving Decena, Luisa Gonzaga, Japoi Cequiña, Mark Lester Jarmin, Mark Lawrence Jarmin, Bernard John Dollison, and Lee Santiago.

The exhibit will feature 26 printed works of the artists.

The League of 2D Artists members are local computer graphic artists, the press release said.

The exhibit will run until January 20, the press release added.*

Sick baby needs help

The jobless mother of a one-year-old girl from Brgy. 4, Silay City, Negros Occidental, is seeking the help of DAILY STAR readers for her daughter who has been diagnosed to have very severe pneumonia and is now confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Welvie Haincanto, 27, said she and her husband Rodrigo, 33, a baker need to buy medicines for their daughter Julia, 1, who remains unconscious at the Intensive Care Unit at CLMMRH.

She said they cannot afford the medication of Julia, as they have another daughter, Grade 5 pupil Rhoda, 11, to take care of.

Medical records revealed that four days before admission, Julia had an onset of non-productive cough. Two days before she was brought to the hospital, her cough persisted and she suffered fever.

Julia was first admitted at Silay General Hospital and later transferred at CLMMRH, records added.
