Representatives of non-government organizations yesterday vowed to step up the struggle for transparency and good governance as part of the organization by Transparency International of its core group in Bacolod City.
The NGO workers said they hope to extend the drive for public access to information, especially in government processes, to encourage civil participation and prevent more corruption.
Benedicto Sanchez of the Broad Initiatives for Negros Development Inc., Edwin Balajadia of the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement-Negros, Pax Christi-Negros’ Jack Pamine, Mardi Mapa-Suplido of Youth Aid, and Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue were at the meeting led by TI Philippines executive director Hazel Navarro. Maximino Cordero of the Citizens Network for Good Governance-Negros, Priscilla Goco of the Freedom From Debt Coalition, Dudz Locsin of Paghida-et-Negros, Rene Hinojales of the Bacolod Anti Baha Alliance, and Amy Grace Gargar of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community, are also members.*PP
