IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL
NSO conducting
two surveys this month

The National Statistics Office will conduct two surveys in Negros Occidental this year – the Labor Force Survey and the Consumer Expectations Survey.

The LFS that will be conducted this month will be for the fourth quarter round with October to December as reference months while CES is a joint project of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the NSO, a press release from NSO said.

Provincial Statistics Officer Fred Sollesta said the data gathered from the two surveys will be used for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms.

Sollesta said Executive Order 121 or the Reorganization Act provides that the data will not in any way be used for investigation and law enforcement purposes.

The two surveys will be conducted starting this week until the end of January covering the pre-determined sample barangays all over the Philippines.

Negros Occidental has 86 sample barangays/enumeration areas for the LFS and three pre-determined sample barangays in Bacolod City for the CES.

The primary objective of LFS is to provide estimates on the levels of employment and unemployment in the country and to gather data in the economic activities of households in the country.

Meanwhile, the BSP contracted the NSO to conduct the CES to collect comprehensive information on the business conditions of the country in the households sector, the press release said.

The CES is a household-based survey on the consumers' assessment of their financial situation, the economic condition of the country and the overall performance of the government.

It aims to generate forecasts on the direction of the country's economic activity based on consumers' outlook in the next 12 months and to provide quick and regular assessment of consumers' outlook in terms of their income and expenditures, the press release added.*
