Former Rep. Jacinto Paras (Negros Oriental, 1st District) yesterday said there is no truth to insinuations that his camp is working for the ouster of Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno through an impeachment proceeding.
Paras said, however, that he questions the Supreme Court for its apparent failure to act on the citizenship case filed by his wife Olivia against incumbent Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong when 14 justices had already signed the resolution in June last year yet.
He said he refused to believe that the 14 justices had affixed their signatures without knowing what their decision was. He also said he believes it was the spokesman of the Supreme Court, Midas Marquez, who brought up the impeachment issue to protect the chief justice by muddling the case.
He challenged Marquez to name names.
Earlier, the high court spokesman was quoted as saying the ouster plot could be linked to a pending case involving Limkaichong filed by losing congressional candidate Olivia Paras, and that Puno was accused of sitting on the case which, he said, has no basis.*JG
