Big waves displace
families in Neg.Or.

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

An unprecedented rise in the tide over the weekend that caused the seawaters to swell has displaced several families in various parts of Negros Oriental.

On Saturday and Sunday, huge waves crashed on the shorelines of the province, sending families scampering to safer ground even as authorities warned of a repeat activity in the coming days.

In Dumaguete City, reports reaching the City Social Welfare Office said that seawater poured into several homes in the coastal village of Tinago Sunday evening, with one house partially swept away.

Ouster move vs.
SC chief not true: Paras

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Former Rep. Jacinto Paras (Negros Oriental, 1st District) yesterday said there is no truth to insinuations that his camp is working for the ouster of Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno through an impeachment proceeding.

Paras said, however, that he questions the Supreme Court for its apparent failure to act on the citizenship case filed by his wife Olivia against incumbent Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong when 14 justices had already signed the resolution in June last year yet.

Answer raps in court,
Yano dares doctor

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Col. Cesar Yano, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade in Negros Oriental is daring a medical doctor suspected of being a member of the Communist New People’s Army, and who is facing charges of murder and multiple frustrated murder, to “face the music.”

Yano was reacting yesterday to allegations of militant groups about alleged “trumped-up” charges filed against Dr. Oliver Gimenez.

“That is normal for the Communist movement, they have what they call the white area operations, where unarmed members usually carry out their activities in urban centers,” Yano said.
