Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, Western Visayas police director, yesterday said he has ordered intensified police intelligence operations and boosting of personnel amid reports of crime groups from Region 7 operating in Bacolod City.
Cuevas said there have been reports of crime groups from the Central Visayas operating in Bacolod and one group had tied up with their Negros Occidental counterparts in committing crimes last year.
He also said Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, Bacolod police director, is still up for transfer.
“We are just waiting for Camp Crame to give us the five names of those selected by the Senior Officer Placement and Promotion Board for Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia to chose from,” Cuevas said.
Leonardia prefers the new Bacolod police director to come from Bacolod, he said.
There have been numerous complaints of unsolved crimes, especially those involving theft, in Bacolod City recently.
Cuevas said he has directed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group members to intensify their intelligence operations.
He said the PNP will also beef up the Bacolod police with personnel from the Regional Mobile group.
Cuevas was in Bacolod City to attend the opening program of the Medical First Responder Course with participants from the Asia Region to be held at the Amity Public Safety Academy in Bacolod City.
He stressed the importance of disaster preparedness in saving lives.*CPG
