63-year-old killed in fire
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A sexagenarian was burned to death when the nipa hut he was occupying was gutted by fire last night at the Greensville Urban Housing in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, identified the victim as Lope Canoy, 63. He said Canoy’s son reported that his father was under the influence of liquor when the fire hit.

Tuzon said that, based on initial investigations of the Bureau of Fire and Protection, the fire, that could have been triggered by an unattended lighted candle, spread rapidly and consumed the whole house made of light materials.

Estimated damage to property was placed at P2,000.

Tuzon said they will request for an autopsy on the victim.*GPB
