Business permits processing
at BAYS Center commences

The “One-Stop-Shop” operations of the Permits and Licensing Division of the Bacolod City Mayor's Office began yesterday at BAYS Center to accommodate the surge of applications for renewals and new business permits.

Permits and Licensing Head Ardis Jaculina, who was overseeing the operations yesterday, said her office will receive applications for business permits until January 20.

The “One-Stop-Shop” drastically shortens the time spent in the processing of permits because all the requirements can be processed in just one location.

Homelot beneficiaries in
San Carlos obtain titles

Forty homelot beneficiaries of San Carlos City under the “Lote Para sa Mahirap” program received their titles from Mayor Eugenio Jose Lacson recently, a press release from the city said.

The 40 certified lot owners, are formers squatters who have fully paid the lot provided by the city government. They include 19 beneficiaries from both Phases I and II, and two from Phase III.

The “Lote Para sa Mahirap,” a Galing Pook 1995-1996 awardee, provides lots to squatter families to ensure their peaceful and smooth resettlement after their eviction from public and private properties. The program has been implemented since 1992.

Cash transfers help keep
children in school: ADB

MANILA – A novel cash incentive program for the Philippines poor is helping keep children in primary school, but not preventing them dropping out of high school, according to a study released yesterday.

The food-for-education subsidy started just over a year ago and gives P300   a month to children aged between six and 15 from the poorest 300,000 households on condition they attended classes regularly.

"The results showed that the targeted CCT (conditional cash transfer) program would lead to greater school attendance and poverty reduction," the Asian Development Bank said, evaluating the impact of the program.
