Break dance
competition set in Cadiz

The Sangguniang Kabataan of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, will hold the 1st SK Battle Mania Cadiz ‘09, a province-wide break dance competition  at the Don Bernardo Benedicto Community Center, in Cadiz, 7 p.m. Saturday, a press release from organizers said.

Sixteen best breakers of Negros Occidental will compete for the right to represent Cadiz in the provincial battle in April, in Bacolod City.

IN SAGAY
Youth join leadership gab

Student and teacher volunteers from Buklod Study Center, a project of Buglas Foundation in Bacolod City, held a series of workshops and talks on building virtues and tapping leadership potential for 60 Sangguniang Kabataan officials and leaders in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, recently, a press release from organizers said.

The seminar emphasized "leading leaders" and "uniting the nation in virtue" in line with the Youth Congress in Rome, Italy in April.

The workshops featured introspective activities, formulation of vision and mission, and commitment to service, the press release said.

Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr.,  who gave a message to participants before the seminar, stressed the importance of education in improving society, and how Sagay provided more opportunities and scholarships for students and teachers, the press release said.

The student volunteers later toured Sagay and the nearby Molocaboc island where they had a tree-planting activity, and Carbin Reef, the press release added.*

One-man show  to open today

A one-man show called “Pamalandong” by Bro. Jaazeal Jakosalem of the Order of Augustinian Recollects will open at 3 p.m. today at the Namitnamit Pagkaon kag Taliambong, beside Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, in Bacolod City, a press release from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos said.

The exhibit name comes from the Hiligaynon term which means “reflection”. It is curated by Nunelucio Alvarado.

Jakosalem, property administrator of UNO-R Bacolod, was exposed to the miserable conditions of the sacadas or sugarcane workers, through the influence of his late father, Feliciano Jakosalem, Jr., who was involved with the plight of the marginalized sectors, the press release added.*
