WV rice
sufficiency improves

NEG. OCC. SEEN AS RP’s 10th TOP PRODUCER

The rice sufficiency level of Western Visayas improved last year after its production reached more than two million metric tons in 2008.

Agriculture Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales said that the overall production has exceeded the regional target of 2.08 million metric tons.

The increase can be attributed to good climate and wider rice areas. The support of local government units is also vital, he said.

DTI 6 to launch ARISE
program on Jan. 26

The Department of Trade and Industry 6 will simultaneously launch in all its provincial offices in Western Visayas on January 26 the program called, “A Responsive and Innovative Strategy for Entrepreneurship”, or ARISE.

DTI Regional Director Dominic Abad said ARISE
involves entrepreneurship training and business counseling service for new enterprises.

He said the program was conceptualized as a response to the call of Secretary Peter Favila to create emergency employment and livelihood projects for the jobless, by providing them with assistance in starting small businesses.
