P4.7-M Okuy Bridge
construction ongoing

BY MARICAR ARANAS

The construction of a Bailey bridge connecting Barangay Magatas and Calabnugan of Okuy river in Sibulan town entails a P4.7 million budget and is expected to be finished this year.

Mayor Antonio Renacia said they hope for the completion of the project to address the complaints of Barangay Calabnugan residents, after the overflow was destroyed  by  the  Dec. 31, 2008 flood.

The  construction  of  the  bridge  started  in 2008  with a fund allocation of P2.3 million from  municipal  and provincial government funds.

The  concrete  foundation and  the flooring of  the bridge  collapsed due to  the  strong  current of  the  river.

Renacia said this problem caused students  from  Barangay  Calabnugan  to cross  the  river  to attend  classes  in  Magatas  Elementary School  and  Sibulan  High School.

Meanwhile, Renacia  said the municipality also spent  for  the  re-channeling  of  the Okuy  river  because it has  affected   the  nearby  private  lots  in  Magatas  and  Calabnugan  areas.*MA
