| Nominations from colleges and universities in Westen Visayas are now accepted for this year’s nationwide search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines, Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, 2009 TOSP regional committee chairperson announced in a press release from her office.
The 2009 regional committee plans to create an empowered environment with the 2009 TOSP Regional Formation Workshop to be held in the cities of Talisay and Bacolod, in Negros Occidental from April 18 to 24.

Deadline for nomination is March 20. Venue of submission is in CHEDRO-VI at Washington Street, Iloilo City 5000 for Panay entries, and in Suite 201, Terra Building, Galo-Gatuslao Streets, Bacolod City for entries coming from Negros Occidental, the press release said.

La Carlota students get
scholarships from Arroyo
Scholarships were given to 24 students of La Carlota City College in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, through Commission on Higher Education Regional 6 director, Dr. Isabela Mahler, recently, a press release from the school said.
Recipients are taking up B.S. in Education major in Math and B.S. in Agriculture major in Agronomy.
Present at the ceremonial giving of scholarships were Agriculture Department adviser Mary Hope Ayson, acting Administrative officer Dr. Luciano Magallanes, College president Dr. Fatima Bullos, Officer-in-charge Dean of Instruction Dr. Bernardita Cabreros and head of Student Affairs Virgie Rendon, the press release added.*

‘High School Musical’ held
American Peace Corp volunteers were among those involved in a stage play called “High School Musical-Ramon Torres National High School Way” held at the Manuel Y. Torres Coliseum and Cultural Center, in Bago City, Negros Occidental, recently, a press release from the school said.
The musical was presented by the school’s English department, headed by Marilyn Gonzaga, and based on the Disney channel original movie, the press release said.
The visitors, Shauna Aron, Rachel Saler, Tom Sunchuck, Sara Nord, and Justin Tabor, are based in the Department of Social Welfare and Developmet in Iloilo and Bago, Bacolod City College and in New Lucena province of Iloilo.
Aron was scriptwriter/dance choreographer of the play, with Gemma Guanzon, Ma. Lourdes Castillo, Eva Gareza, and Catalina Tejida, who were also directors with Reina Tumbagahan, the press release said.
In the cast are Stephanie Sorbito, John Salvador, Julie Ann Baylon, Joven Dingcong, Carmela Alianza, Joseph Magdalera, Eva Gareza and Mawee Martir.
