ARFIEN faculty hold show

The ARFIEN Faculty Show, which features art works by faculty members of the La Consolacion College-Bacolod School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Interior Design, opened Monday at the North Wing of SM City in Bacolod, a press release from LCC said.

The exhibit held for the 16th time now is aimed at inspiring budding artists, deepening their appreciation of the art and enhancing art education in the city.

Joining the exhibit are Rogelio “Roy” Aguilar, Cheryl Bacay, architect Rogelio “Roger” Diaz, architect and interior designer Dominic Diocson, interior designer Raymond Fuentes, Mary Ann Manganti, Antonio Tejado and Bamboo Tonogbanua, the press release said.

The opening was led by Dr. Ma. Mercedes Aves-Joson, vice president for Academic Affairs and architect Dean Rialino “Butch” Alisbo of the School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Interior Design.

The event was attended by administrators, students, alumni and friends of LCC Bacolod and the management of SM City Bacolod.

The 20 exhibited works include varied forms of visual art from paintings to digital photography to art works using mixed media, the press release added.*

Silay City creates
eco-tourism center

The Silay City government in Negros Occidental recently established the Silay Outdoor Recreation and Eco-Tourism Area in Brgy. Patag, a press release from the city said. 

Mayor Jose Montelibano said the activities in the area are in line with the programs of the Department of Tourism, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Northern Negros Forest Reserve.

He added that the Patag Development Program is undertaken by Silay Tourism Office, Brgy. Patag Council and the Silay Environmental Management Office, in coordination with Silay Tourism and Culture Development Council, the press release added.

Facilities include a seminar center, administration office, cottages, picnic ground, camping site, Japanese shrine, veterans' monument and ecotrails. Biodiversity conservation will have wildlife rescue ground, butterfly garden and established trail for horse back riding.

Livelihood opportunities for the residents are tour guiding, handicraft production, vegetable and crop production, and marketing, and catering service, the press release said.

Tourism officer of Silay, Ver Pacete, said there are projects that may interest students and educators – war artifacts, gallery, science garden, biodiversity monitoring and evaluation.

Christia Ledesma, senior environment management specialist, has reactivated the Bantay Bukid Brigade volunteers for forest protection and greening, the press release also said.*

Sick girl needs help

The mother of a girl, 7, diagnosed to have liver ailment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City is seeking the assistance of DAILY STAR readers for her daughter who is now confined at the Miscellaneous ward of CLMMRH.

Micky Pamularcon of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental was taken to the hospital on Jan. 8 for having a yellowish discoloration of her skin, her mother, Bella, 43, jobless, said.

She added that her husband, Bernabe, 48, is a fisherman and Micky is their seventh child.

Medical records revealed that four years before confinement, Micky’s abdomen started to enlarge and she suffered abdominal pain and undocumented fever.

The mother is appealing to readers to help them defray the expenses for her continued medication.

Ceneco calendars brownout

The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. announced the occurrence of brownouts Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. which will affect areas in Brgy. Pandanon Silos in Murcia and the entire area of Don Salvador Benedicto, a CENECO press release said.
