IN CADIZ
Husband kills wife
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

An hacienda laborer shot his wife dead, in front of their three children, Tuesday night in Brgy. Andres Bonifacio, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, police said.

Ricky Cardinal yesterday gave himself up to the Cadiz City police station, almost 14 hours after he allegedly shot her wife, Elizabeth, 49, at their residence in Hacienda Unson of the barangay, while she and their children were having dinner.

Elizabeth succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in the head, police said.

Cardinal claimed that he and his wife, whom he accused of maltreating their children were quarrelling, before the incident.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, however, their eldest daughter, whose identity is being withheld, disputed the claims of their father, saying it was he who had maltreated them, including their mother, whenever he was under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

She added that their father, whom she accused of also being hooked to marijuana, immediately left their house, after the shooting.

The suspect reportedly used a .357 magnum revolver. He is now locked up in jail.

Meanwhile, criminal complaints of attempted homicide are being readied by the police against a fish vendor, for allegedly shooting a policeman last week in Ilog, Negros Occidental.

The suspect, identified as Joelito Gaudaca, is now detained at the Ilog police station jail.

Insp. Edencio Gregorio, Ilog police chief, said in his report to Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, police provincial director of Negros Occidental, that SPO1 Rene Bagatella had not been hit, when he was shot by Gaudaca, with a .45 caliber pistol.

Police investigations also showed that Bagatella and his son, John Rey, were on board a motorcycle, when he was shot. However, the police officer who managed to duck and jump into a canal, survived the attempt.

Gaudaca gave himself up to the Ilog police station, with the help of town Councilor Turk Vael.*GPB
