The Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade vehemently debunked and dismissed as “baseless” claims that some of its members have already defected and merged with the New People’s Army.
Victorino Sumulong, RPA-ABB spokesman, yesterday clarified that their “forces are all accounted for”, especially in Negros island.
Sumulong made the clarification because of an allegation by a police official in northern Negros, that the RPA-ABB and NPA have joined forces.
Sumulong told DYHB that this was an irresponsible statement from a police officer who did not even get a clearance from his immediate superiors.
He also said it is very clear to all RPA-ABB members that what the NPA is now espousing is plain and simple terrorism.
The RPA-ABB and its political wing, the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas, entered into a peace agreement with the government in year 2000.
However, the RPM-P-RPA-ABB broke into two groups, after the death of RPM-P founding chairman Arturo Tabara, and the two rival factions are now headed by former ABB chief Nilo de la Cruz and Veronica Tabara, wife of the slain rebel leader.
Sumulong had earlier claimed that Edwin Perocho, a former NPA member who was allegedly assassinated by his former comrades had participated in the killing of Paitan Brgy. Capt. Ildefonso Senora in Escalante Nov. 5 last year.
Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, Escalante police chief, however, said they have not received any information that may linked Perocho to the case.
Senora was the fifth supporter of Vice Mayor Santiago Barcelona killed in Escalante since the May 2007 elections up to November last year.*GPB
