She said that the men covered her mouth with a handkerchief that smelled of something like alcohol that made her weak and dizzy.

CARP blamed for
low tax collection

BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Vice Mayors League of the Philippines-Negros Oriental chapter recently said the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program is one of the reasons for the low tax collection efficiency among local government units.

Provincial treasurer Danilo Mendez had recently encouraged all municipal treasurers to improve tax collection efforts, especially on real property.

Bais City Vice  Mayor Luciano Benlota said  several productive  lands  have become  idle  and  delinquent  in paying  real  property  taxes  after  the  Department of Agrarian Reform distributed them to farmer beneficiaries.

Cops need gun
safety retraining
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Police personnel in Negros Oriental must undergo a regular refresher course on proper gun handling and gun safety laws to become more efficient in the performance of their functions and duties, Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas said Thursday, after a gun safety seminar for barangay officials of Valencia, Negros Oriental.

Lawas said that even policemen need a refresher on the provisions of laws as many of them lack knowledge in carrying and using guns in the line of duty.

During a previous discussion with Negros Oriental provincial police director Senior Supt. Augusto Marquez Jr., he said, they agreed to conduct a refresher course on gun safety and firearms laws for all police personnel in the province.
