IN BACOLOD
85 cops promoted

The 85 newly-promoted personnel of the Bacolod City Police Office were challenged yesterday by Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, BCPO director, to perform their duties well in their higher ranks.

The police non-commissioned officers were promoted recently as part of the annual institutional career advancement scheme of the Philippine National Police.

Thirty-two of them were promoted from Police Officer 1 to PO2, while 36 now hold the PO3 rank, a statement from the BCPO showed.

Two officers were promoted from PO3 to Senior Police Officer 1 and two were raised from SPO1 to SPO2.

Three others now hold the rank of SPO3 while 10 were promoted to SPO4 status, the statement said.

Quebrar said he hopes the officers’ promotion will help boost their morale as they continue to work for public welfare.

He also said that promoted officers should practice their leadership skills in dealing with the public and in their relationship with their colleagues.*PP

Neighborhood watch
creation gets support

The Bacolod police said yesterday that it is supporting neighborhood efforts to further curb crimes and maintain peace and order in the city.

Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, Bacolod City Police Office director, said that community-based anti-crime efforts are important in deterring crimes because the police cannot solve crimes on its own.

Quebrar had earlier consulted Brgy. 5 officials and residents on issues concerning their neighborhood.

Recent incidents of hold-ups and snatchings were brought up by the residents during the meeting, a BCPO statement said. The incidents have led residents to regard the police as inadequate in providing security to them.

This week, two men tagged in recent hold-ups in Bacolod, were arrested by the police after concerned citizens reported their whereabouts.

Insp. Jeffrey Attunaga, Police Station 2 commander, said that the public can help them arrest more thieves in their respective areas by reporting their activities.

Several cases of armed robberies happened within the area of Police Station 2 this month and it appears that the BCPO wants to rely more on the assistance of the public in pursuing solving them.*PP
