Province draws first blood
in 9th Tan Kek Pin opener

Province of Negros Occidental opened its campaign in Class A of the 9th Tank Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Tournament with a masterful 98-79 win against Ted’s Batchoy-Automobili Detaligia Tuesday night at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
From a slim 25-23 margin in the first quarter, the Province’s troika of Marlon TalaTala, Rex Bayer, and Bert Celis orchestrated a second quarter rampage to effectively silence Ted’s corner with an overwhelming 63-36 halftime lead.
TalaTala and Joemarie Bayhon topscored for the Province squad with 16 points output while Bayer and Mark Ramos had an identical 9 points while last year’s tournament MVP Arnold Laureño and Celis contributed 8 points apiece.

| Realtors beat SMB, MANILA – Salvaging some of its pride, Sta. Lucia Realty got away with a 99-97 victory against San Miguel Beer last night to finish third in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum. A baseline floater from Dennis Miranda with less than two minutes left in the ballgame, nailed the win for Sta. Lucia while Mick Pennisi will always remember his three-point attempt that was off the mark, leading to a scramble and a jumpball situation between Miranda and Bonbon Custodio with only 1.4 ticks left. Custodio won the tap but the ball went to nobody as time expired. |
