The Technical Education, Skills, and Development Authority has more than 400 job-directed training scholarships available for qualified jobless Bacoleños through the Congressional Office of Bacolod City, a press release said.
Rep. Monico Puentevella said the scholarship is a response of the government to lessen the impact of the financial crisis to unemployed and underemployed Bacoleños.
The scholarships, worth P3 million, are open for welders, household service workers, plumbers, masonries, pipe fitters, and tile setters. It will cover training fees, training allowance, incentive package, and free assessment and certification, the press release said. 


Farmers, NGOs get seeds,
fertilizers assistance
Forty-five farmer associations from 23 towns and cities and three non-government organizations in Negros Occidental yesterday received 10,675 bags of organic fertilizers and 185 sacks of registered rice seeds from the Province of Negros Occidental during the turn-over rites held in Brgy. Tabunan, Bago City, a press release from the Capitol said.
The agricultural inputs, amounting to P2.3 million, were distributed in line with Office of the Provincial Agriculturist project under the HEARTS PLUS agenda that includes attaining food security by increasing food production.
The farmer-recipients are under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani Cluster.


‘PLDT not buying
Star news group’
MANILA – Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. yesterday denied reports it has bought one of the country's biggest newspaper groups.
The Manila Standard Today newspaper, quoting sources supposedly close to the transaction, said the telecommunications giant had bought a majority share in the Philippine Star group from the Belmonte family.
"As part of the agreement, the Belmonte family will stay on as minority shareholders with a management agreement for three years," the paper said.
