2 farmers surrender
for shooting couple

A couple sustained injuries when they were shot while asleep in their house in Sitio Portugalesa, Brgy. Culipapa, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, yesterday.

Insp. Mateo Maguate, Hinobaan police chief, said the two suspects, identified as Rudy Verde, 53, and Teresito Hingoyon, 37, peacefully surrendered to the police, after shooting Dante Panilan, and his wife, Natalia.

Police investigations show that Verde and Hingoyon, armed with a 12-gauge homemade shotgun and a .38 caliber revolver, shot the couple because of old grudges.

Despite an injury in his left side, Maguate said, Panila fought back when he saw that his wife had also been shot in the stomach.

The two suspects fled, but left behind their two firearms, a shotgun and a revolver, police investigations showed.

Maguate said Verde and Hingoyon later gave themselves up to the Hinoba-an police station, through the help of a barangay kagawad who convinced them to surrender.

Verde claimed that Panilan had been tagged by Verde as the one who had robbed his son.

The two victims are now being treated at the Eleuterio Decena District Hospital in Hinoba-an while the suspects are locked up in jail.*GPB
