Impeachment or removal of the majority directors and officers of the Dacongcogon Cooperative Marketing Association will be the leading agenda of its annual regular assembly in Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City, at 10 a.m. Aug. 28, Rolando Parpa, former chairman and president of DPCMA, said in a press release yesterday.
This was agreed upon by the directors, led by Wilfredo Miraflores and the group of members questioning his leadership, after the fact-finding dialogs between parties presided over by CDA Legal Officer, Danilo Segubre at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City on July 24, and at the coop mill site office at Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City later, Parpa said.


Genetically modified food
safe, DA consultant says
Genetically modified foods are as safe as their conventional counterparts, Dr. Santiago Obien, consultant on Institutional Development Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agriculture Research, said yesterday.
Only safe and environmentally friendly GMOs are allowed by the government, said Obien, who was a resource person on the third day of the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan review of its ordinance banning GMO products.
Obien also said that the Negros Occidental GMO ban is contrary to the national policy of using biotechnology to improve productivity and make our industry competitive in both the local and global markets. Obien was also former executive director of the Philippine Rice Research Institute.
