Artist holds solo exhibit

Bacolod artist Butch Liboon opened his first solo exhibit titled “Porno Gra Pipa” Saturday, which runs until August 22, at the Namit Namit Resto Gallery near the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City.

The show features more than 40 pieces of pipes including sculptures made by the artist from terra cotta, wood and other materials.

Guests of honor were businessman Frank Carbon and society columnist Luci Lizares.

Liboon said he has created pipes in different sizes which are functional and decorative, and can also be used as souvenir items. His penchant for pipes was inspired by his grandfather who had been using one, he said.

Meanwhile, the 34th anniversary exhibit of the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros is ongoing at the Negros Museum until August 4.

The show features the works of 47 Negrense artists in oil, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, pastel, and pen and ink.

Patient
Riesse Gyle with mother, Elsie.*

A two-year-old leukemia patient from Bacolod City undergoing chemotherapy is in need of financial assistance for her continuous treatment for the next three years.

Riesse Gyle Sanchez, 2, of Vito, Sagay City, Negros Occidental was diagnosed in June to have acute lymphocytic leukemia at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Her parents are Elsie, 26, a housewife, and Rey Sanchez, 28, a fisherman, who said they cannot spend for their daughter’s medicines and treatment scheduled weekly.

The total cost of treatment, including medical fee for the past four months, had reached P33,200, the parents said, adding that they have no one to turn to for help, except to benevolent DAILY STAR readers.

Medical records reveal that after a bone marrow aspiration on the patient, doctors found out that the right anterior iliac spine of Riesse Gyle showed a cellular yield, which is consistent with acute lymphocytic leukemia.

Any help for the patient may be coursed through the DAILY STAR office.*GCT
