City Comelec head’s
move questioned

The Commission on Elections En Banc has issued a resolution reassigning Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon to Bago City and designating Ryan Castro in her place upon the request of the COMELEC regional director.

COMELEC regional director Dennis Ausan, in his letter to COMELEC chairman Jose Melo dated April 13, 2009, said Majarucon, despite her dedication and assiduousness towards work, has become the object of serious allegations of partisanship that might sooner influence her performance and the credibility of her work as Election Officer of Bacolod.

Ausan said Negros Occidental Election Supervisor Jessie Suarez had confirmed the matter and told him of the possibility of her being moved out of Bacolod.

An Indian national who arrived from HongKong is under observation for possible Influenza A(H1N1) at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, Gov. Isidro Zayco said last night.

Zayco said he has ordered Dr. Luisa Efren, Provincial Health Officer, to ensure close monitoring of the case.

She said it is not confirmed that the patient has A(H1N1) and a specimen has been sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for verification.

Pulupandan Acting Mayor Antonio Suatengco yesterday issued a Cease and Desist Order to Asian Alcohol Corp. and the municipal engineer of the town declared its water pipeline an illegal structure.

Suatengco said in the CDO that the municipal government as “protector of the people and their rights to good health and clean environment, cannot anymore close their eyes and be left deaf and dump to the harmful effects arising from the continuous discharge of pollutive effluents into the sea and the emission of dangerous fumes and assimilation in the atmosphere of fly ash caused by the operation of Asian Alcohol Corp.”
