The Negros Oriental government has allocated P1.4 million for the development of the Twin Spring in Barangay Baslay in Dauin town.
The funds will be used for the construction of cottages, comfort rooms and handrail that will support the concrete steps going to the twin spring.
The Baslay hot and cold spring is among the tourism destination sites currently develop to cater more tourists.
The province, through Gov. Emilio Macias II, has allocated an amount for the construction of concrete steps. The governor said he is interested in developing the twin spring because it has therapeutic power, due to the sulfur content in the water.
Macias also asked Dauin Mayor Rodrigo Alanano to study or develop a design for an upland dipping pool exclusively for senior citizens. The sulfuric water will be sucked out from the main source to the dipping pool.
The spring is believed to be one of the exhaust streams of the sleeping volcano situated in the mountains of Valencia and Dauin. The Energy Development Corporation has an on going geothermal project in the mountains of Dauin.
The Baslay Twin Spring has earned a minimum of P5,000 every week coming from the donations of tourists. The Sanguniang Bayan, though, has not passed the resource users fee ordinance for the twin spring.
The resource user’s fee will become the basis for collecting entrance fees and lease of cottages and other amenities inside the spring.*MA
