jobs fair slated
BY RENE GENOVE

At least 10 overseas employment agencies will participate in a jobs fair during the celebration of the 111th Philippine Independence Day anniversary Friday, at Quezon Park, Dumaguete City.

The Kalayaan Job and Livelihood Fair, on the theme "Kagitingan, Kagalingan, Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan," will kick off with a flag-raising ceremony and program at 7:25 a.m., followed by the opening rites, medical and dental mission, public assistance, and government services, among others.

Labor employment officer Kenrick Villaluz of the Department of Labor and Employment said that more than 1,000 overseas employment opportunities will be made available.

Local job vacancies will be also offered, as well as hiring for government agencies through the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program, he added.

Villaluz said they expect placement agencies to accept both professionals and skilled workers among residents of Negros Oriental, for jobs in the Middle East, Hong Kong, Singapore and Europe.

Job seekers must bring their resume/biodata, credentials, certificates of employment, passports, or National Bureau of Investigation clearances, Villaluz said.

NARS PROGRAM

Meanwhile, the DOLE said about 40 nursing graduates are expected to be hired for the second batch opening of the Nurses Assigned in Rural Areas program at the jobs fair.

Villaluz said these nurses will be assigned to 20 low-income municipalities in the province in October. Identified towns which lack medical personnel will receive two nurses each.

The first batch of 40 nurses employed under the NARS program  were assigned to the towns for a six-month tour of duty in February  this year.

NARS is the contribution of DOLE to the CLEEP program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo designed to help Filipinos cope with the current global downturn in business, investment, employment and other economic activities.

Villaluz said those hired through the NARS will undergo a training program developed by the Board of Nursing.*RG
