FOR MARIJUANA
3 teenagers nabbed
in stake-out operation

Three teenagers were apprehended in a drug stake-out operation of Police Station 1 operatives at Mabini-Rizal streets in Bacolod City at around 3:40 p.m yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Joshua Barile identified the arrested teenagers as Jay-R Javier, of Brgy. 27, Nico Rodriguez, of Brgy. Mansilingan, and Eugene Bello, of Brgy. Mandalagan all in Bacolod City, all 18 years old, while the alleged pusher eluded arrest and fled when he noticed the presence of policemen.

Barile said two sealed plastic containers with suspected dried marijuana leaves with an estimated market value of P300 and another plastic container with at least 20 pieces of rolled paper were recovered from Javier.

Barile said Police Station 1 has been receiving information that illegal drug peddling is rampant in the area where the teenagers were collared.

He added that the pusher, from whom the drugs were bought is a neophyte in the trade because he is not included in the drug watch list. He however did not disclose his name as follow-up investigation is still ongoing.

Rodriguez and Bello denied the accusations and claimed they only asked Javier to accompany them to their friend’s house. They also said they have no idea about Javier’s “illegal activities”.

Despite their denial, Barile said the three of them, who are now detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 1, will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Last week, the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group of Bacolod City Police Office had admitted that at least seven barangays in Bacolod remain drug-infested.

CAIDSTOG officer-in-charge Cesar Del Carmen identified them as barangays 1, 2, 22, 26, 27, Singcang-Airport and Banago.*APN

32 policemen undergo
training in leadership

Thirty-two policemen from the different police units in Western Visayas are now undergoing a month-long seminar at the Regional Special Training Unit in Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.

Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, Region 6 police director, said the seminar is aimed at instituting reforms in human resource management, and the call for each police officer to lead the PNP organization towards a genuine transformation.

Policemen facing administrative charges who completed the re-training at 6th Regional Mobile Group headquarters in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, were among those dispatched by the PRO 6 in Sulu, to support the military in neutralizing the Abu Sayyaf bandits.

Cuevas said enhancing the moral values of police officers will lessen the problems buffeting the PNP organization.

“The PNP is facing so many enemies, both from the organization and from without, that is why we need more leaders to win these battles,” he added.*GPB

Copper wires
recovered by police

Police Station 1 men arrested a Bacoleño yesterday who was found carrying about 5 kilograms of burned copper wires in Bacolod City at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

Police identified the suspect as Danilo Diola, 24, of Purok Mahimulaton, Brgy. Banago. He was nabbed by the team led by Police Officer 1 Johnson Quindo at Cuadra Street, Brgy. 12 in Bacolod.

Quindo said he was on patrol with Police Officers 1 Orlando Caporal and Martin Sioson in their Nissan Terrano and were on their way to Police Station 1 when they spotted Diola and his four unidentified companions.

Thinking their behavior suspicious, Quindo said he alighted from the vehicle and Diola’s companions fled when they saw him.

Diola told the DAILY STAR the copper wires seized from him were not his and he had no idea where it came from.

Diola said he only accompanied the three, one of whom he identified as alias “Ulo”, of Brgy. Banago. They were on their way to sell the copper wires to a junk shop in Bacolod when the police collared him, he added.

Police Station 1 commander, Senior Insp. Luisito Acebuche, said they have received numerous complaints regarding stolen copper wires in Bacolod, the latest of which was at the Negros Occidental High School.

Acebuche said they would check if Diola, who is now detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 1, and his companions are involved in the series of wire thefts in Bacolod City.

He also warned junk shop owners not to purchase copper wires suspected to be stolen as this constitutes a violation of the Philippine Anti-Fencing law.*APN
