Back Up stopped San Hong, 82-69 to create a triple tie for the first round at 2-1 card in the 2nd Danilo Puzon Cup of the Basketball Unified Sports Group Wednesday at Lopue's South Square.

Toto Plagata hit 17markers while Vic Dueñas and Randy Cawaling scored 15 each to hold off erstwhile leader San Hong.

Back Up also received scoring support from Ed Cruz, who delivered 12 points, while Joemarie Concepcion chipped in 10 for playing coach Moises Padilla who pinchhit for Bing Soyao.

The Back Uppers led 39-33 at the end of the second quarter and outscored San Hong, 43-36, in the final half despite San Hong’s Biboy Java’s 26 markers and Bert Pabon’s 12 points. The rest of the team played listlessly.

The win allowed Back Up to bounce back from its 30-point loss to Axial Engineering last week.

Meanwhile, Rene Antones’ Axial won by forfeiture over Jaded Court to remain in the in the thick of the fight for the twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinal.

The Courtmen remained winless in three games.
