A new academic institution in Bacolod City was blessed and inaugurated yesterday.

The South Hills Academy, erected on a spacious 16,000 square meter property in Brgy. Alijis in Bacolod, is an off-spring of the collaborative efforts of businessmen who wish that every child can have access to affordable education, its president, Ramon Lacson Jr., said.

Lacson said that the tuition fee is not more than P20,000 for the whole year, less a ten percent chartered discount for pioneer students, which they can enjoy until they graduate.

The school aims to promote a holistic formation by giving priority to values education, as well as proficiency in English and Mathematics.

Lacson stressed that, though they are expecting to earn money from the operations of the institution, the main reason why they decides to put it up is that they want to leave a legacy to the next generation.

“We don’t want to consider this as our source of livelihood, from which we can get our bread and butter. We want to have a school that is affordable but with a high level of education standards, equipped with modern facilities”, he said.

Each classroom is fully air-conditioned with toilets and flat screen television sets that can be used as multi-media instructional materials for the pupils, former EB Magalona mayor and the School Board treasurer, Alfonso Gamboa, said.

The school, which now caters to nursery to Grade 5 pupils from class A, B and C, has less than a hundred students with at least seven faculty members. It plans to expand its academic program to high school and college in the coming years.

Lacson added that, aside from giving priority to English proficiency, South Hills Academy will also focus on computer competencies since it is one of the tools that “we cannot do away with today.”
