| Jobless man shoots self
A jobless man allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Bacolod City yesterday, Inspector Renato Ofamen, station commander of precinct 5, said.
Ofamen identified the fatality as Renan Esparagoza, 40, resident of Hacienda Liza in Brgy. Granada, Bacolod.
Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Jonathan Guillena showed that Esparagoza’s body was discovered by his nephew Leo Pendon at around 8 a.m. yesterday.
Investigation showed that Pendon, 36, said he rushed to the residence of his uncle, which is about 20 meters away from his house, when he heard a gun shot.
Ofamen said that, according to Esparagoza’s relatives, he was suffering from a lingering ailment that might have caused his depression.
The homemade shot gun (sumpak), believe to have been used by Esparagoza was recovered beside his body, Ofamen also said.
Ofamen noted that, aside from the firearm, the policemen also recovered an empty shell and a live ammunition of 12-guage shot gun from the crime scene. But there were no suicide notes recovered, he added.
Though the incident appears to be suicide, Ofamen said that they are not yet setting aside the possibility of foul play.
The victim’s body will undergo an autopsy and paraffin today to ensure that there was no foul play, Ofamen said.*APN
